Creeds & Confessions
Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. — Hebrews 10:23
We are Christian. We affirm the doctrines of historic Christian orthodoxy such as those defined by the Apostles Creed and the great ecumenical councils of the first millennium of Christian history such as the Councils of Nicea, Chalcedon, Constantinople, and others. These catholic doctrines include such affirmations as the Trinity, the deity of Christ, the atonement of Christ, and other doctrines that are integral to historic Christianity. We proclaim the same Gospel that has been announced for 2000 years, contending for the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints.
We are Protestant. As Protestants, we affirm the 5 Solas of the Protestant Reformation.
-
Sola Scriptura: Scripture is the only infallible rule of faith and practice.
-
Sola Fide: Justification is by faith alone.
-
Solus Christus: Jesus Christ is the only mediator through whose work we are redeemed.
-
Sola Gratia: Our salvation rests solely on the work of God’s grace for us.
-
Soli Deo Gloria: To God alone belongs the glory.
We are Confessional. We affirm the great truths of the Reformed Tradition. Our officers affirm the theology of the Westminster Confession of Faith and Catechisms as the best understanding of Holy Scripture. The IPC also recognizes the 3 Forms of Unity as an equivalent subordinate standard to the Westminster Standards.
